In recent years, synthetic DNA oligonucleotides have enabled novel applications with developments in synthesis technologies for large‑scale oligos. From this perspective, the webinar will briefly review the techniques and technologies that enable the synthesis of large‑scale oligos, the challenges that arise with an increase in scale, and emerging applications from R&D to clinical diagnostics and therapeutics.
Learning objectives
- Understand oligo synthesis from discovery work to commercialization
- Identify technical complexities faced during the scale‑up of sequences
- Discover service and support opportunities with Thermo Fisher Scientific
About the presenter:
Ben Hinton, BSc
Senior Manager of Manufacturing Operations
Ben Hinton holds a degree in Zoology from Swansea University, Wales, UK. Ben joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in 1999 and is currently the Sr. Manufacturing Manager for the Custom Oligo Value Stream in Pleasanton, CA, USA. Ben has extensive experience in oligonucleotide manufacture having worked in this field for that last 23 years both in the UK and US. Ben has managed both DNA and RNA oligo manufacture and has been integral in implementation of new oligo products and processes within varied manufacturing environments and scales. When not synthesizing oligos, Ben likes to spend with his family hiking around northern California.
